FREE Ancestry.com!

1 Jul

At this time of year we often reflect on what it is to be “American”. Many of us know little of who we are or how we got here. If you are interested in researching your family tree, there are many resources that may already be available to you for FREE of charge courtesy of one of our greatest intuitions—the public library system! This includes the popular online subscription service, Ancestry.com.

Believe me, our system is the envy of many countries and definitely a source of national pride! Library resources vary depending on where you live and their funding sources. If your library does not offer what you need, ask your librarian for other libraries you could access. Generally, you should be able to access these resources no matter what city you live in as long as you are a state resident with a valid library card; again ask the librarian for details.

So thank you Carnegie, Gates & tax payers everywhere who support your local library! And if you happen to live in one of those states that values building more prisons while closing libraries, I have one word of advice…Megabus.
